2012 Ford Focus Named IIHS Top Safety Pick

In revamping the new Focus, Ford paid particularly close attention to fuel economy, design, individuality, connectivity and,  last but not least - safety. As it turns out, the American automaker succeeded in making one of only six cars named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), within the small car category.

To earn the IIHS Top Safety Pick designation, the 2012 Ford Focus had to get a top "Good" rating in a series of four crash tests: front, side, rear and roof-strength/rollover. The small car also had to come standard with electronic stability control. Needless…

Ford Uses Dandelions To Make Car Parts

As cute and sunshiny as they are, dandelions have earned themselves quite a bad reputation over the years - especially among homeowners who pride themselves on maintaining the perfect lush, green lawn. To American automaker, Ford, however, the common weed is recognized as an increasingly valuable resource.

Apparently, the milky-white substance contained within the dandelion root can be used to make a plant-based rubber, which could eventually take the form of cup holders, door mats, and interior trim. The variety of dandelion Ford is particularly interested in, and which the Ohio State University agriculture research center (OSU) is using is the…

Ford Technology Benefits Europe's Growing Elderly Population

Several years ago, Ford developed the "Third Age Suit" to gain insight into how they could better accommodate the Europe's quickly graying population. The Suit offered Ford engineers a visceral glimpse into everyday "Golden Age" scenarios. Ultimately, the experience provided invaluable inspiration for designing Ford cars that offer old and young drivers alike a distinct sense of comfort and ease.

Now, Ford is sharing their "Third Age Suit" with professionals from another industry, specifically architects keen on designing homes that better meet the needs of their older clientele. A group of architects from Hahn & Helten GmbH, for example, recently…
